$1950  -  Blow through carby turbo kit

 

 

Bolt this kit on a stock engine, and you're looking at approximately double the standard power level (130-140hp).  With the appropriate supporting mods (head porting, intercooler, non restrictive exhaust), I estimate this kit would max out at around 250hp (186kW) before the turbo and manifolds become the biggest restrictions in the system.

 

The kit is designed for an Isuzu G series engine (G161, G180, G200) fitted to a Holden Gemini, models TX-TG, but could easily be used in the engine bays of a Jackeroo, Rodeo, Chev Luv, etc.  It will also bolt on to 4X and 4Z series engines.

 

 

The kit comes with EVERYTHING needed - it is a complete bolt on kit designed to include every component required to install the fuel system from fuel pump to carby, and  to fit the turbo charger to the engine.  This is a kit designed to bolt on and then run the engine, the carby will be roughly jetted to suit your engine.

Kit includes: 

CARBY & INDUCTION SETUP

- Factory remanufactured Weber 32/36 DGV carby.

- New K&N style turbo plenum to suit Weber.

- New Redline adaptor plate to and fitting kit to mount Weber to inlet manifold.

- Accelerator cable bracket and linkage to connect Gemini accelerator cable.

- New aluminium mandrel bent cross over pipe.

- New silicone hose joiners and bends (red or blue).

- New pod style air filter with adaptor.

- New hose clamps and gaskets.

 

HIGH PRESSURE FUEL SYSTEM

- New Bosch style VL Turbo spec EFI fuel pump.

- New Holley style boost referenced fuel pressure regulator.

- New EFI fuel filter.

- New high & low pressure fuel hoses and clamps

- All fittings required to adapt hose from boot to engine bay.

 

Exhaust manifold & turbo

- Piazza turbo exhaust manifold fitted with T28 adaptor plate.

All you need to do is get the exhaust system connected to the supplied turbo dump pipe, then the car should be taken to a dyno workshop to get the mixtures checked under normal and boosted driving conditions.

 

The kit comes will all the little parts that are needed, like gaskets, hose clamps, studs, nuts and bolts, etc.  There is no fabrication necessary, it is truly a bolt on kit.  

 

With the appropriate supporting mods (head porting, intercooler, camshaft, non restrictive exhaust), I estimate this kit would max out at around 200hp before the inlet and exhaust manifolds become a restriction.  The turbo itself should support around 250hp.

 

 

 

CARBY - Weber 32/36DGV

The carby is a factory remanufactured Weber DGV 32/36 (manual choke option).  These carbys look very nice under the bonnet and are similar to a new carby as they are completely reconditioned as follows:

The Weber will be roughly jetted to suit the application, but as stated above, you will need to have your mixtures checked and adjusted, preferably on a dyno, before chasing horsepower.  A new redline adaptor plate with fitting kit, along with accelerator cable bracket will be supplied.

 

 

 

INDUCTION SYSTEM 

The turbo draws in air through a high flow cotton gauze pod air filter mounted on the front of the turbo compressor.  The turbo compresses the air and the flow is directed through a polished aluminium mandrel bent cross over pipe, directly to the Weber carby using a K&N style turbo plenum.  For information on the K&N style turbo plenum, click here.

Silicone hose bends and adaptors are used to connect the filter and piping, and quality hose clamps are supplied.  

 

 

 

EXHAUST MANIFOLD - Piazza

The exhaust manifold used is a Piazza unit, match ported to a G series cylinder head (ports can be left round to suit 4X and 4Z series engines on request), and fitted with a laser cut T25 adaptor flange to suit turbo.  The manifold is then ported to smooth out the transition to the turbo, to make sure it will support the 250hp rating of the kit.

TURBOCHARGER - Garrett T28

Garrett T28 as factory fitted to Nissan S14 200SX with SR20DET engine.  Can support around 250hp.  These turbos are second hand units that has been stripped and cleaned, checked for damage and wear before the housings are bead blasted and reassembled.   These are low kilometre turbos that have minimal shaft play.  Specs are:

High quality billet aluminium CNC machined adaptors are supplied to connect the compressor inlet & outlet.  They feature o-rings for positive seal against turbo flanges.

 

Included in the kit are oil supply line, oil drain line, water coolant lines and all the fittings required.  A polished stainless steel 3" dump pipe is also included to reduce restriction from turbulent air flow straight after the turbine, and has a 3 bolt flange for easy exhaust system connection.

 

 

 

FUEL SYSTEM

The kit is based on an external high pressure EFI pump, which uses the FPR to bring the fuel pressure down to carby levels.  The EFI fuel pump is a copy of a Bosch 070 - VL Turbo spec pump, capable of supporting up to 350hp.  Details and specs of the pump can be found here 070 EFI Pump.

As the fuel pressure will be around 5psi when off boost, and anywhere up to about 25psi when boosted, high pressure EFI spec hose is required.  Enough EFI hose and low pressure hose (for fuel return lines) is supplied to plumb up the whole car, from the electric in-tank pump, to the engine bay.  All hose clamps, adaptors, EFI fuel filter and fittings are also supplied.

One thing that people should keep in mind is that the standard G series engine is very strong.  No strengthening modifications are required to use one of these kits, providing the carby is tuned to get the air/fuel mixtures correct.  If something isn't right and you get serious detonation, you are guaranteed to break something.

 

Stock G series engines usually have a static compression ratio of around 8.7:1, which is turbo friendly, and high octane fuel like Shell Optimax or BP Ultimate will allow even more boost to be run..
